Today we were treated to a very entertaining talk by Alessandro, about the context, plot and characters of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. Like many operas it is sung in Italian, making it inaccesible to the average English listener (combined with the perceived 'high brow' Classical operatic style) but Alessandro brought it to life with simple explanations of the plot, English translations of the Libretto (lyrics) and even a live performance of the aria Dalla sua pace, accompanied by pianist Cedric Ghevaert.

Personally I feel much more cultured than I did this morning! I would recommend a talk like this to anyone unfamiliar with opera (like myself).
